As California’s oldest chartered institution of higher education, Pacific first opened its doors in 1851. Today, the University serves more than 6,000 students at campuses in Stockton, San Francisco and Sacramento, offering a student-centered learning experience integrating liberal arts and professional education.
The Sacramento campus acts as a wellspring for game-changing law and policy, helping to inform and convene conversations about critical topics ranging from water and the environment to the economy. The fundamental mission of the faculty at the Sacramento campus is to educate graduate and professional students in the fields of law, business, education, public policy and health care.
University of Pacific’s history in Sacramento started in 1924, when Verne Adrian McGeorge founded a one-room law school at L and 10th streets in downtown Sacramento. In 1957, the burgeoning school moved to Oak Park, and in 1966 it joined University of the Pacific.
Today the leafy 13-acre Sacramento Campus is home to the McGeorge School of Law and a growing number of dynamic new graduate programs. Marking an exciting new chapter in its long history, in the fall of 2015 the University began rolling out programs designed to serve working professionals seeking an MBA, doctorate in education (EdD), master’s in public policy (MPP) and master’s in public administration (MPA). A full-time master’s program for physician assistants (MPAS) is also under way, as well as a master’s in education (MA), master’s in analytics (MS), and bachelor’s degree completion program in organizational behavior (BS).
At Pacific, service to community is a core value. From all three campuses, faculty and students are dedicated to making an impact, whether via supporting an innovative law-themed charter school in Natomas or offering free health clinics throughout the Central Valley and Northern California.
As Pacific looks to expand their service in this region, they celebrate their deep roots in our region and close partnerships with organizations like the Metro Chamber, who share their unwavering commitment to Sacramento’s future.
