Keep Sacramento Working continues to grow! This week we added the Handle District and National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) as partners with Keep Sacramento Working. We are grateful for their willingness to add their voices to the many working to ensure we move forward reasonably on the minimum wage proposal for the City of Sacramento.

The Mayor’s Income Inequality Task Force began its work last week and received presentations from United Way and Sacramento State. At tomorrow’s meeting, the Task Force will receive a report from the Labor Center at the University of California, Berkeley, whose research has attempted to justify every city minimum wage increase in California.

The Labor Center is run by a former living wage organizer with ties to Raise the Wage. That connection prompted a researcher from the Employment Policies Institute to note in Friday’s Sacramento Bee, “…the Golden State’s capital city deserves better than the output of a biased team at UC Berkeley who wrongly argue that a wage hike is the economic equivalent of a free lunch.”  Read entire piece here >

We need your voice to express how a dramatic increase will affect your business or non-profit’s ability to stay competitive, provide services, keep your employees, and benefit our community.

Please join us TOMORROW, August 5 from 4:00 – 6:00pm at Sacramento City Hall (915 I Street, Council Chambers). Public comment will occur from roughly 5:30 – 6:00 pm. We ask that you arrive no later than 3:45 to ensure that you have a spot during public comment. There are also several ways to get involved even if you are unable to attend in person. It is critical that the members of this task force hear your story as they deliberate on this important subject.
