Stella Premo named interim CEO

After nine years as CEO of NextEd, Dave Butler is leaving his position to become Vice President at Advocacy and Management Group, a Sacramento based firm offering management and lobbying services to statewide professional associations.

Dave achieved many goals set before him by the NextEd Board of Directors in 2007 including:
• Positioning NextEd as a model employer-education partnership and regional P-20 Council to better align education to advance regional economic objectives
• Creating a region-wide system of support for school districts throughout the six-county region to support and sustain high school career academies aligned with the Next Economy
• Establishing NextEd as a primary economic development organization in the Capital Region and successfully positioned education as a top tier priority among business and civic leaders

During his tenure, NextEd has helped acquire over $40 million in public and private funding to support public education programs in over 20 school districts across seven counties in Northern California.

Dave also leaves his position as Executive Vice President of the Sacramento Metro Chamber, which he assumed in March of 2014 when Metro Chamber and NextEd formed a combination agreement. During this time, Dave led the successful effort to obtain the Small Business Development Center contract and led the Chamber’s strategic planning and rebranding efforts. Dave’s last day with NextEd and the Metro Chamber will be June 30.

Stella Premo has been named interim CEO of NextEd during a national search for a permanent replacement. Premo joined NextEd in November 2014 as Executive Director and Director of Educational Programs.

“We are very excited for Dave and sincerely appreciate his years of leadership and commitment to NextEd and our shared work,” said Naaz Alikhan, NextEd Board Chair and President of Williams+Paddon Architects and Planners. “NextEd’s Board and staff are in a great position to implement and sustain the work ahead of us and determine what’s next for the organization and the region.”

“On behalf of the Metro Chamber Board of Directors, we congratulate Dave and express our sincere appreciation for his many years of service to NextEd and the Metro Chamber and for moving both organizations forward in a positive way,” said Peter Tateishi, President and CEO of Metro Chamber. “Both the Metro Chamber and NextEd Board of Directors are committed to finding a replacement in a timely manner.”
