Minimum Wage Alert: Task Force Meeting Tonight

Metro Chamber Avatar

Last week, the Mayor’s Income Inequality Task Force heard a report from Michael Reich, a researcher from the Labor Center at the University of California, Berkeley, analyzing a proposal by labor to raise the City of Sacramento’s minimum wage to $13.50/hour.

Today the Task Force will hear from Dr. Chris Thornberg, an economist who serves on the Council of Economic Advisors for the state treasurer and founding partner of Beacon Economics. Dr. Thornberg will review UC Berkeley’s report, funded by organized labor, on $13.50 and provide an overview of the potential negative impacts of a city specific increase.

We need your voice to express how a dramatic increase will affect your business or non-profit’s ability to stay competitive, provide services, keep your employees, and benefit our community.

Please join us TONIGHT from 4:00 – 6:00pm at Sacramento City Hall (915 I Street, Council Chambers). Public comment will occur from roughly 5:30 – 6:00 pm. We ask that you arrive no later than 3:45 to ensure that you have a spot during public comment. There are also several ways to get involved even if you are unable to attend in person. It is critical that the members of this task force hear your story as they deliberate on this important subject.
