Metro EDGE Launches Pitch for Change Competition

All aspiring change leaders are encouraged to apply

SACRAMENTO, CA–Metro EDGE, the young professionals program of the Sacramento Metro Chamber, announces the Pitch for Change competition, and is accepting proposals from local young professionals (YPs) on ideas that could transform the overall culture and economic development of the Sacramento region. The competition leads up to the third annual Emerge Summit, a half-day, interactive event on March 18, 2016 dedicated to inspiring YPs to drive change in their cities, communities, and careers.

Pitch for Change is an opportunity for local curators, philanthropists, and business leaders to showcase an idea or concept— with a chance to make it a reality. The call for entries is brought to life through a video series featuring influential YP’s who are currently making an impact fulfilling leadership roles in business, education, philanthropy, and more.

Contestants will compete for a mentorship and marketing package, sponsored by Uptown Studios, valued at more than $5,000. The winner will be chosen at Emerge Summit.

“The influence of young professionals continues to grow in Sacramento and Pitch for Change is an opportunity for aspiring individuals to cultivate an idea or project,” said Christine Calvin 2016 Chair of Metro EDGE.  “Sacramento is in the midst of a renaissance, and we are encouraging young professionals to take action and play a critical role in continued efforts.”

Pitch for Change details include:

  • Phase One: Interested participants must submit a 500 word write-up, bio and a headshot, any photos or videos that have already been developed, plus any websites, links to content, or social media pages/hashtags associated with the project by Feb. 21, 2016.
  • Phase Two: Metro EDGE will select three semifinalists, and will work with each individual to create a video, produced by KJ2 Productions, highlighting the pitch.
  • Phase Three: Each video will be shown at the 2016 Emerge Summit, and attendees will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite idea. Winners will also be announced the day of.

Emerge Summit is dedicated to empowering, motivating and showcasing young professionals. Keynote Speaker, Greta Gerwig, award winning actress and producer, will present on her experience, innovative ideas, and journey to success. Gerwig will also be accompanied by Jay Sales, Innovation Strategist, and Co-Lead at The Shop at VSP, who will provide his personal insight into the challenges and choices that come with being a changemaker.

Emerge will also have 11 professional development workshops—each facilitated by different local young professional programs—centered around the theme of #bethechange. The inaugural Emerge Summit encouraged YPs to love and embrace the city they live in. Last year, Emerge challenged YPs to take action and own it. This year, Emerge will inspire actionable steps for YPs to make a choice, take a chance, and be the change.

Spearheaded by Metro EDGE with support from the Sacramento Metro Chamber, the Emerge Summit is a collaborative effort of regional leadership programs including: Roseville Ignite Young Professionals, Sacramento Asian Pacific Chamber of Commerce – Catalyst Program, Sacramento Regional Builders Exchange, Urban League of Greater Sacramento Young Professionals, ULI Young Leaders Group, VSP, Junior League of Sacramento, Greater Sacramento HYP- Habitat Young Professionals, Nehemiah Emerging Leaders Alumni Association, Safe Credit Union; and, many more.
