Membership Spotlight on SMUD

Metro Chamber Avatar

This year marks SMUD’s 70th anniversary of brightening the Sacramento community with affordable, reliable and environmentally responsible electricity. In recognition of their 70th anniversary, they’ve launched a campaign called 70 Years Bright. The campaign celebrates their 70-year history of powering the people, businesses, and community that inspire them.

SMUD powers our local business community in more ways than just keeping the lights on. Through incentives, forward-thinking loan programs and partnerships with entrepreneurial education programs, SMUD is actively supporting our economy.

In addition to their work in the business community, SMUD supports many nonprofit organizations through sponsorships, volunteering and employee contributions. They’ve built a culture around supporting organizations that improve the lives of Sacramento residents and businesses. That culture is reflected in how generous SMUD employees are with their time, money and personal resources to the nonprofits that matter most to them. Last year, SMUD employees donated over $480,000 to charities and volunteered 14,508 hours.

SMUD’s a different kind of utility company because they’re community-owned and not-for-profit. That means, while they’re lighting the homes and streets of our region, they’re also keeping our community at the heart of all they do.

For 70 years, SMUD has worked with you to brighten our region with volunteers, donations, education, and support for what you care about most. This year, they‘re shining a light on the people, communities, and businesses that help them make a difference – to keep powering what you love.

They’re your utility and because of you, they’re 70 Years Bright.
