Chamber View February 2016

We are one month in to 2016. How are you doing with your resolutions? Have you let a couple slide? If one of your resolutions was to expand your business this year, or to seriously explore that business idea that’s been in the back of your mind, come on down to the Capital Region Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and pay us a visit.

Established at the Metro Chamber in early 2015 in collaboration with Sacramento State and other partners in the region, the SBDC is here to be a resource for growing small businesses and the entrepreneur ready to get a new business started. In our first year we were thrilled to:
• counsel nearly 600 individuals,
• help create 27 NEW businesses,
• create or retain 168 jobs, and
• assist in securing 51 loans or equity investments resulting in over $8.2 million in capital infusion right here in the Capital Region.

Throughout the region, we have eight hub locations reaching eight counties offering free, high-quality business advice on a wide range of skill sets from financial management, accessing capital, marketing, importing and exporting and how to start your business. In addition to personal counseling, we offer the chance to meet and learn with others through our Executive Series geared towards those already managing a small business looking to refine certain business practices or strategies. In addition to assisting entrepreneurs and small business owners with developing their business plan, web-based marketing and understanding how to manage cash flow, a primary goal for the SBDC is to help businesses obtain the financing they need to grow.

We work closely with area banks, credit unions and alternative lenders to help companies build partnerships and secure the appropriate loans and capital. Our mission here at the Metro Chamber is to advocate for a business climate that both supports and helps businesses grow. We are directly bringing that mission to life at the SBDC. If you’re ready to turn that idea into a reality or looking to enhance a skill set or your bottom line, check us out. We are here five days a week ready to help you expand and succeed.
