2022 Cap-to-Cap Highlights

Metro Chamber Avatar

Cap-to-Cap is one of Metro’s most esteemed events. Each year, members of the Sacramento business community journey to Washington D.C. to meet with our representatives and advocate for the Greater Sacramento Area.

This year was especially exciting as Metro celebrated the 50th annual Cap-to-Cap! Trip highlights included learning events, our 50th Annual Legacy Gala at the National Portrait Gallery, and meetings with government officials about policies impacting the Sacramento region, particularly policies related to Metro’s 2022 focus on building a “Connected Region” and “Ready Workforce.”

Metro’s goal to support a Connected Region includes strengthening transportation for the Sacramento Area. While in Washington DC, our Transportation team held a meeting with the Office of the Vice President of the United States to discuss regional transportation priorities

The VP’s office committed to work with federal agencies to create grant funding opportunities, as well as prioritize transportation infrastructure funding generally. Being from California, the office had heard of the California Mobility Center, a Sacramento-based organization that helps transportation innovations become commercially viable throughout the State.

Our Workforce Development team also stayed busy on the Cap-to-Cap trip. The team made important progress to support a Ready Workforce in Sacramento by meeting with two separate agencies.

First, the Metro team connected with the Employment and Training Administration (ETA). Their staff discussed local workforce development priorities and shared feedback on how to make apprentice programs successful.

Our team also met with the Office of Congressman Garamendi. Garamendi’s Staff was supportive of the workforce development priorities presented by Metro’s team, offered helpful examples, and asked for more information on certain specific projects. The Workforce Development team is eager to continue their Cap-to-Cap momentum through the rest of 2022.

We are pleased with the progress Cap-to-Cap participants made for Sacramento during this year’s trip. After 50 years, this event continues to be a major benefit for our region. Here’s to 50 more.
