Amanda Blackwood: 125 Years & Counting

Metro Foundation Avatar

The Sacramento Metro Chamber is — and will always be — the voice of business in the Capital Region. For the past 125 years, the Metro Chamber has advocated for and supported the inclusive economic prosperity of our region by leading efforts on behalf of the business community.

The Metro Chamber has served as the region’s principal economic development and advocacy organization since 1895 and will continue to lead the regional business community over the next 125 years and beyond in a way no other organization can.

We’ve recruited experienced staff to support the needs of our membership, strengthened relationships with civic leaders and created a new standard of accountability on how Sacramento invests economic development dollars, provided unique opportunities for members to build new business, and collaborated with our regional partners to design the region’s economic development strategy for the future.

The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) had a record year of performance — over $20 million of capital deployed into the local market. Metro EDGE’s EMERGE Summit for Young Professionals remains the largest YP conference west of the Mississippi. And, something we are really proud of — all levels of the organization from the Board, to program participants, to the staff were – and will continue to be – the most diverse and representative of the community in the Chamber’s history.

In 2020, we will continue to execute on our 4-Point Business Promise:
Strong Business: Cultivate the environment business needs to succeed
Connected Region: Connect people, place, and commerce
Ready Workforce: Close the gap between business needs and a skilled workforce
Vibrant Community: Benefit business health through community vitality

Our promise will be evident in all the things we do for our members. With a new policy platform leading the way for 2020 focused on the issues that affect business the most, we will remain an active advocacy champion for regional issues. Our members will continue to have access to training and education that will help them grow their businesses. Through our feature programs, Business After Hours Mixers, Referral Round Tables and orientations, members can network and connect to form new relationships with regional leaders, young professionals, and key decision-makers. And with the help of our talented business counselors at the SBDC, small businesses looking for access to capital will have all the tools they need.

As we enter the next 125 years of Metro Chamber success, I’d like to thank you for being a member, attending a mixer, joining a committee, or being a partner. Because of your engagement and support, we have built a legacy for the business community that is unmatched and will continue to thrive.

With gratitude and wishing you success in the new year,
