This afternoon, Governor Newsom issued a Regional Stay-at-Home Order, which will go into effect within 48 hours in regions with less than 15% Intensive Care Unit (ICU) availability. The latest order prohibits private gatherings of any size, closes sector operations, excluding critical infrastructure and retail, and requires mask wearing and social distancing. Once triggered, businesses will have 48 hours to comply with the new restrictions.
“There is hope ahead, but the reality of today is these additional shutdowns will be devastating to our small businesses. Without immediate relief from Congress, many of our local businesses will feel long-lasting impacts of these required closures,” said Metro Chamber CEO Amanda Blackwood. “We must continue to do our part, to wear masks, to abide by the restrictions, and to maintain social distancing protocols to reduce the spread of the virus. Our small business owners need to know we have their back and will be there for them today as well as tomorrow.”

- Business sectors required to temporarily close will include bars, wineries, personal services, indoor recreation, indoor entertainment, barbershops and hair salons.
- Businesses permitted to remain open will include critical infrastructure, retail, restaurants (limited to take-out and delivery only), and schools with waivers.
- Essential businesses — like retail and grocery stores — in counties impacted by the regional order will be restricted to a 20% capacity limit. Outdoor fitness classes and activities will also remain open; additional details on impact to indoor fitness businesses to follow.
The Greater Sacramento Region includes the counties of Alpine, Amador, Butte, Colusa, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sacramento, Sierra, Sutter, Yolo and Yuba. Once the Regional Stay-at-Home Order goes into effect, it will remain in effect for three weeks and will be lifted when a region’s projected ICU capacity meets or exceeds 15%.

Due to the economic impact of the Regional Stay-at-Home Order, the Metro Chamber joined more than 100 other Chambers of Commerce in sending a letter to the California Congressional Delegation to urge them to provide immediate relief to small businesses.
