Since 1895, the Sacramento Metro Chamber has put community first. From recruiting mid-westerners to our golden hills during the Gold Rush to convening conversations on important topics today like our growing food economy, the Metro Chamber inherently recognizes it is the people and the things we do together that make our region great.
It’s been a year of great excitement. We celebrated the grand opening of a new sports entertainment complex in the heart of downtown radiating economic development throughout Sacramento. And recent elections will bring new faces to the conversation who are enthusiastic, motivated and ready to explore “what’s next?”
It’s been an important year for us at the Metro Chamber as well. Together, with the community, we:
- pounded the pavement during our Business Walks speaking with nearly 1,000 businesses to understand what is working and what our businesses need to grow;
- helped open more than 30 new businesses and counseled over 650 looking to build or expand via the Capital Region Small Business Development Center;
- convened female leaders from various industries at Perspectives on Leadership to share their inspirational stories;
- revived the Metro Chamber Foundation focused on ensuring our workforce pipeline is ready for tomorrow and young professionals have the leadership and professional growth opportunities needed to succeed;
- supported 700 young professionals eager to take this region to the next level via Metro EDGE; and
- aided local non-profits like the Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services and Wellspring Wellness Center through our Inspire Giving and Leadership Sacramento philanthropic services.
We achieved great things not just in our six-counties, but extended our reach via our long-standing advocacy programs focused on economic growth. We took nearly 350 community and business leaders and elected officials to Washington, D.C. to advocate directly at the federal level for our region. This fall, we traveled with another 100 to the Twin Cities to explore best practices on how cities can maintain healthy competition while collaborating to create the greatest impact.
Our job is to advocate for and support our members by leading the effort to grow and retain business. We are eager to build upon our successes with you by our side in 2017.
