Rio City Café opened its doors in May 1994 and is quickly approaching their 22nd anniversary and couldn’t be more proud! The restaurant is currently owned by husband and wife team Mark and Stephanie Miller and was founded by Mark’s father, Lewis. Lewis (“Lew”) was a true restauranteur and at one time had 42 restaurants in a total of 4 states. He always believed in high quality food in a fun atmosphere. If his restaurants weren’t near water, they always had a “beach” theme inside. With Lew’s passing, Mark and Stephanie decided to start a new chapter in their lives. With kids in college, they sold their two businesses and home in Colorado and moved to Sacramento to carry on and help grow the tradition of Rio City. They’ve been here one year now and truly love being a part of this beautiful city and unique, historic Old Sacramento! Having been raised in the Stockton/Lodi area, Stephanie in particular feels like she’s returned home.
And what a year they’ve had! The husband and wife team began many developments and enhancements to the restaurant with plans for more. They listened intently to their customers and now have featured meats and more seafood along with farm-to-fork specialties on the menu, where everything is made in-house daily. They’ve sponsored all Old Sacramento events, sponsored Farm-to-Fork, and are so proud to be a part of Metro Chamber. The Chamber is very special to Stephanie who notes she has met so many people who she now partners with and have become friends.
The Millers are really excited to see Sacramento have a chance to come alive in the downtown area again, and are celebrating Sacramento’s recent mention as one of the top 20 most charming cities. Stephanie and Mark have rolled up their sleeves and thrilled to carry on Lew’s legacy. Come in and pay a visit to Rio City Café!
