Sacramento Region Retail Theft Resources

The Metro Chamber has been working with our state and local leaders as well as the public safety community to advocate for change and support our members who are being adversely affected by retail crime. The most important thing businesses can do, is report criminal activity.

Reporting is an important step to ensuring community well-being. While some incidents may not receive immediate interference, public safety partners document repeat calls which lead to improved analysis and resources towards accountability.

How to report a retail crime:

  • Contact the police about retail crime that is taking place or one that has already occurred
  • Take photos and videos if safe to do so
  • Be as specific as possible with the incident
  • Explain when you feel endangered what is being said to you, and if there are any weapons involved
  • Describe all parties involved, specifically their physical characteristics (hair color, eye color, facial hair, tattoos, etc.)
  • Advise if the parties involved arrived/left on foot, bike, or vehicle (if possible, give a description of the bike/vehicle – make, model, color, license plate and direction of travel)

Cooperating with law enforcement:

  • May consist of officers arriving at the scene and you providing a verbal statement and signing citizen’s arrest form if necessary
  • Assures that law enforcement has accurate data
  • Can lead to longer term solutions
  • Supports efforts of the District Attorney’s office to mitigate future offenses
