Dion Dwyer, Managing Partner of MMS Strategies, is an experienced and well-respected policy advocate with a remarkable career spanning over 25 years. His commitment to driving business activism and fostering regional collaboration has left an enduring mark on the communities he serves.
Dion’s journey in advocacy began with a decade-long tenure at FedEx, where he worked closely with local industry leaders, managing international supply chain productions. This experience laid the foundation for his extensive career, marked by a deep understanding of the intricate workings of businesses and their impact on local and global economies. In subsequent roles, Dion showcased his leadership abilities, serving as the Executive Director of the Northern California World Trade Center. Here, he played a pivotal role in advancing business interests and fostering global connections. His commitment to regional economic growth continued as he took on the role of Vice President of the Sacramento Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, where he further honed his skills as a collaborative leader.
Most recently, as the Director of Public Space Services with the Downtown Sacramento Partnership, Dion demonstrated his ability to navigate complex urban challenges. He successfully mitigated issues related to the construction and opening of the Golden One Center, a cornerstone in the heart of downtown Sacramento. Dion collaborated with the city on nighttime safety measures, addressed traffic impacts, and partnered with parking operators to ensure seamless capacity management.
Dion’s dedication to the community extends beyond urban planning. He actively engages in addressing nighttime social issues, representing the region at the Responsible Hospitality Institute’s annual conferences and workshops. His commitment to finding solutions for homelessness is evident in his daily work with city, county, and regional organizations. Dion’s influence is further amplified by his role on regional and statewide boards, where he contributes to the development of strategies aimed at reducing the impact of homelessness on both the housed and unhoused populations.
As a resident of Sacramento, Dion remains deeply committed to elevating conversations that lead to positive and lasting impacts on the community. His involvement in the Board of the Sacramento Police Federation underscores his dedication to public safety and collaborative efforts to address community concerns.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Dion is an avid fisherman, finding solace in the simplicity of nature. His multifaceted approach to community leadership, encompassing business advocacy, urban planning, and social issues, reflects a holistic commitment to the well-being and prosperity of the city he proudly calls home.
