Local small business concessions OK'd for International Airport, thanks to help from Metro Chamber advocacy

Sacramento County Board of Supervisors agreed with the Sacramento Metro Chamber position, voting 3-2 on June 15 to support the original airport staff recommendation that will allow for multiple food concessionaire contracts at the expanded Sacramento International Airport Terminal B.

At the heart of the issue was the push by local union organizers attempting to force every food operator at the new terminal to utilize union employees. The Metro Chamber opposed any inclusion of labor harmony agreements in the County's RFP process that may exclude some potential bidders that would reduce the service offering and potential competition at the new terminal.

"The Metro Chamber didn't believe it was fair or equitable to local business or good for our local economy to have all the food concessionaires at the new terminal be part of a national conglomerate or be forced into unionization," said Matt Mahood, president & CEO. "We thank Supervisors Roberta McGlashan, Susan Peters and Jimmie Yee for standing up for local business."  | Sacramento Bee article
